Dolphin Species Extinct After 25 Million Years, Mankind Responsible
There is a romantically tragic Chinese legend about the Baiji dolphin. The Reader's Digest version says the Baiji was the reincarnation of an ancient princess who was drowned by her father after refusing to marry a man who she did not love.
In the modern era, the Baiji is one of only four species of dolphins who have been known to live exclusively in fresh water. It swam the Pacific ocean 25 million years ago, then migrated to China’s Yangtze River 20 million years ago, according to fossil records.
This species, which was able to survive 25 million years on planet earth, was no match for the environmental misconduct of mankind.
In fact, this is the first time a dolphin or whale has been wiped out due to the meddling of humans.
